Summary: The final 5.1 and stereo re-recording mix for Peacock’s Gilgo Beach docuseries, built to hit every network’s spec from one template, with a fourth episode mixed in three days after the killer pled guilty.

The Challenge

This was a high-profile, high-scrutiny title: a Peacock original executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the first Gilgo documentary to put serial killer Rex Heuermann’s wife and daughter on camera.

The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets is a well-produced docuseries with a cinematic yet intimate feel. It was important for the mix to play up the tension and drama of the true crime genre, while ensuring the documentary-style interviews with the family felt personal and authentic. The mix had to balance those two styles by understanding the intent of each scene and portraying the right emotions at the right time.

For the cinematic true crime moments, the many layers of music and effects were handled track by track to heighten the drama. For the intimate scenes, a strong dialogue edit was key. As with most documentary filming, the production crew only gets one chance to capture a moment. A major part of post-audio is ensuring that whatever was recorded can be edited and cleaned up to remain intelligible while still preserving the realism and emotion captured on set.

The final piece of the puzzle was distribution. The series sold into multiple deals, so one mix had to satisfy several networks’ specifications at once. That meant building a single 5.1 and stereo template that met every network’s requirements, reconforming the program, and delivering custom mix and stem packages to each network. After the show aired, the final curveball was a surprise fourth episode that turned over on a tight schedule following Heuermann’s guilty plea.

Our Approach

Our lane was the mix. Texas Crew’s editors handled music supervision and SFX editorial, and we took their elements and delivered the final 5.1 and stereo re-recording mix. That clean division helps fast-track the distribution process: the production team already worked through tone and transitions internally with the music and effects, allowing the mix to focus on the story and be turned around quickly, fully compliant with network specs and ready for distribution.

One Template, Every Network

Nicole Pfledderer handled this one end to end, from the first pass, through every production revision, and all network QC notes. Before that first pass, she built a single delivery template that accounted for every network’s spec up front. That decision paid off. The template incorporated each network’s loudness and stem layout requirements, so the 5.1 and stereo masters, and the reconforms required for each distribution deal, all came from the same foundation instead of being rebuilt from scratch.

Built for Turnaround

Fast turnaround in television is the name of the game. When Heuermann pled guilty in April 2026, the network approved an additional fourth follow-up episode. The new program turned over on a Sunday night, came back for review Monday, cleared QC Tuesday, and delivered Wednesday. Three days from turnover to a finished, delivered mix. Then Nicole stayed on standby through the weekend in case anything flagged on the network side, so the episode aired that Sunday without a scramble.

Results

Across the full series and two networks, exactly one minor network note came back, and we fixed it and re-delivered it as a patch. Everything else cleared first pass. For a post supervisor, that is the headline: no surprises in network QC. And the production’s air dates held without anyone ever sweating the mix.

One mix foundation carried the show from its June 10, 2025 Peacock premiere to the Oxygen reconform. The title was nominated for 2 Emmy Awards in 2026, and has since grown into a scripted series in development at Peacock.

The result that matters most to a production company is the simplest one: an ongoing relationship. Across seasons and multiple series, Texas Crew continues routing its slate to DAP because they already know how the next delivery is going to go.
